United Way Challenge

Support your school & United Way by taking the United Way Challenge!

Congratulations to Parkersburg South High School on winning the United Way Challenge! Parkersburg South students and fans raised $689 for United Way Alliance. The challenge total was $1,015. A big thank you to Dominion Hope for their sponsorship of the challenge, too!

Sponsored by Dominion Hope, the United Way Challenge is a way for you to show your school pride and LIVE UNITED at the same time. The annual football game between Parkersburg South High School and Parkersburg High School has been a long-standing rivalry of two of the best schools in the state of West Virginia. In an effort to raise funds and awareness for United Way Alliance, this year's game will feature the United Way Challenge and award a trophy to the school that raises the most money. Buckets will be placed at the main gate for each school and fans are encouraged to bring a cash donation with them. Students from each high school will also be able to give throughout the week leading up to the game at their school.

“We’re very grateful to once again partner with Dominion Hope, said United Way Executive Director Andrea Shirey. While we know there must be a winner and a loser at the end of the game, this challenge is a way to make sure the entire community wins," she said. Gifts to United Way Alliance benefit the entire Mid-Ohio Valley and 99 cents of every dollar stays local. The United Way annual campaign kicked off in September and has already received over $200,000 towards the $735,000 goal.

“This is a great rivalry between two of the best schools in the state of West Virginia on and off the field," said a representative from Dominion Hope. Please support your school and the United Way.”

“We’ll all be there cheering on our own team," Shirey added. "But this is an opportunity to truly LIVE UNITED and make an impact on the most pressing needs of our community.”

United Way Alliance and over one hundred of its agency representatives will be recognized during the pre-game ceremonies and toss footballs to fans in the stands. United Way is celebrating its 90th anniversary of serving the Mid-Ohio Valley this year.

Another great partnership effort between United Way and Dominion Hope
