United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley is launching a new affinity group – Women United. This group will be a part of the powerful, global network within United Way of 70,000+ women leaders across more than 165 communities and six countries, all focused on building stronger communities.

United Way Alliance’s Women United will be a diverse community of like-minded women leaders who contribute their personal passions, best ideas, and unique strengths to the mission of building a stronger Mid-Ohio Valley.

The launch is officially on August 26, 2021 - Women’s Equality Day.

“Women are a dynamic force in our community,” said Stacy DeCicco, Executive Director. “Bringing Women United to our community will allow us to join together to make a lasting difference in people’s lives in the community where we live, work, and raise our families.”

United Way’s Women United is the largest women’s philanthropic organization in the world. Since 2002, Women United has raised more than $1.5 billion to support the programs and initiatives led by United Way. Together they have focused on providing the building blocks for a better life and a stronger community – Health, Education, and Financial Stability.

Local members of United Way’s Women United will be women leaders donating at the Leadership Circle level of $500+ per year and will be encouraged to join sub-committees for direct involvement in the planning and execution of events and volunteer opportunities. Members will receive exclusive monthly updates for networking and social opportunities, educational programs, and volunteer engagements.

DeCicco has tapped former Executive Director and current owner of One Nine Design, Andrea Shirey, to serve as the group’s first Chairperson.

“Stacy and I have been dreaming up this idea for years and the time was finally right to go all in,” said Shirey. “This is our opportunity as women to do more than write the check. We have the power to help transform our community and working together with United Way enables us to do more than any single organization can do alone.”

Shirey added that plans are already underway for a Women United holiday celebration in partnership with Scot’s Landscaping that will feature a unique opportunity for members to see behind the scenes of local nonprofits and help in tangible ways.

Those women who qualify for membership based on their 2020-2021 United Way campaign gift will receive an email or letter this week with more information. However, any woman may join by making a qualifying donation - $500 or a commitment to give $50 per month. More information can be found on the United Way website at www.uwamov.com/womenunited or by contacting Andrea Shirey at andrea@oneninedesign.net
