Shirey selected as new Executive Director

Andrea_10.jpgThe United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley announced today that Parkersburg native, Andrea Shirey has been selected as its new Executive Director.

It is with great excitement that I can announce that Andrea Shirey has accepted the position of Executive Director of the United Way Alliance of the MOV, said United Way Board Chairman Karl Boelter.  “Andreas background in non-profit leadership and fund raising is very impressive and with her leadership, we look forward to continuing the good work already taking place here in the community.

Shirey earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from West Virginia University and went on to serve her alma mater at the West Virginia University Foundation. It was there that her love for connecting donors with their passion began. Shirey later served in leadership development roles with the University of Florida, the Florida Baptist Childrens Homes and Baylor University before returning to her hometown of Parkersburg in 2012.

Ive been privileged to work in many great universities and in the non-profit world doing what I love for the past 12 years. And while Im immensely grateful for those experiences, none of those opportunities compare to having the chance to serve the people of my own community, Shirey said.

Boelter added, Andrea was selected from a strong pool of applicants and we could immediately sense she was a great fit for this role. Her energy and experience set her apart and I have no doubt she will be successful.

Shirey grew up in Parkersburg and though she and her family spent several years in Florida and Texas, she has always considered the Mid-Ohio Valley home. Coming home and leading an organization like the United Way Alliance feels like a dream come true. I cannot imagine a better organization to be a part of and Im ready to hit the ground running.

Shirey and her husband Scott reside in Parkersburg and have two children - Connor and Isaac. Shirey will assume the position of Executive Director as of September 2, 2014.
